This project, intended to be semi-humorous, dealt with the plight of shopping trolleys in various situations and locations. The work was shown at The Bluecoat Gallery, Liverpool in 1990 and in The British Journal of Photography Annual in 1988. The project came to an end in the early 1990's. The trollies somehow became anthropomorphised and I started to feel sorry for their predicament. There has been a resurgence of interest in the project and the work has been re-edited, expanded and shown here complete for the first time. A selection has been published by Cafe Royal books and is available on our Photodeck web site. Shopping trolleys out of context are seen less often now because of the £1 deposit needed for their use and return, however their presence in incongruous places has become a visual cliche.
