Glassplies was at one time a glass fibre molding company built on the site of a Victorian bottle tip. The company had closed down and the property had fallen into disrepair. People would dig deep holes at the site, among the left-over moulds, hoping to uncover bottles, earthenware jars and other remnants buried in the ground from the earlier tip.
I became intrigued with the site and photographed there between 1992 and 1995 using 5x4 and medium format cameras. Concentrating on a relatively small area during several seasons, and looking intently suited my way of working. The layering of history, changing land use and evidence of human activity all evident in "Glassplies" has been an ongoing concern throughout my photographic practise.
