I lived in Southport for about twenty five years and when I became a photographer I photographed many different aspects of my home environment - especially the people and the landscape.
The coast had a variety of structures: some utilitarian, whose form was defined by function and many catering for tourists during the summer months. Almost all the structures were in a state of flux, or semi-dereliction, especially after having been battered by winter storms.
I photographed these contrasting structures in the landscape off and on for about eight years from the mid 1980's until the early 1990's using 5x4 and medium format cameras.
