These photographs are close-ups of a Dyson vacuum cleaner and when vacuuming the detritus built up in layers in the transparent cylinder. This cylinder could be removed for emptying and this also allowed it to be photographed. The layers became a kind of archaeological record of the activities that took place in the domestic environment - the older material was deposited in the bottom of the cylinder. These photographs were published in Source magazine, issue 34 in 2003, exhibited in "Visualising the Home" at The Vallum Gallery in 2017 and a small selection shown at Les Rencontres De La Photographie in the exhibition "Home Sweet Home" in Arles 2019. The work was also published as a Cafe Royal Book available on our Photodeck web site.
