Tomorrows Women Wirral is a female only environment; the socially engaged project was a collaboartion with a group within the centre.
The women have varied interests and reasons for attending the centre; this is reflected in the work produced. Each participant photographed or collected images of a personal interest. These images are then displayed as decoupage on masks.
The women selected masks as they felt that we all, often, have to disguise our true selves. With the support and fellowship found at Tomorrows Women Wirral they feel they’ve been helped to remove their masks.
The panoramic portrait of the group is set in the beautifully tended garden at TWW making a connection between the participants and the concept of personal growth.
Most of the women are wearing their masks in the photograph not for anonymity but because of the groups’ sense of fun, playfulness and camaraderie.
